These bomb are used by the air forces for practice purposes. the pilots drops these bombs after removing the safety pin from a flying aircraft to bombard a pre determined target.
It emits a flash and gives out dense orange smoke. the assembly consists of cartridge smoke, nose assmebly, aluminium body and safety pin.

Cartridge 16mm is very handy signal. ammunition fired from a 13mm hand projector where the ammunition is screwed and fired by triggering. it is used by land, navy and airforce personal for all putpose of signalling.
At every stage of processing, strict quality control measures are adopted to ensure the quality of the cartridge.
Fuze 117 is a direct action gaze fuze. It is used in variety of equipment, with HE, bursting smoke and chemical shells. It functions at low angle of impact and is rapid in action
Before loading, the safety cap is removed but not striker cover.
The striker is forced in, compressing the striker spring, the point pierces the detonator & resulting detonating impulses passes through the explosive stemmed channel to the explosive pellet in the magazine & thereafter to the bursting charge of the shell.
Material of fuze | 95% Brass, 5% Steel |
Length of Fuze | 124 . 689 mm to 126 . 848 mm |
No. of components | 22 |
At every stage of processing , strict quality control measures are adopted to ensure the quality of the fuze.
This fuze are direct action detonating type. Fuze 162 MK8 (M-2) is assembled with Bomb 81 mm HE/PWP Mortar whereas Fuze 162 MK-9 is assembled with Bomb 120 mm HE PWP Mortar with the help of adapter tube assembly.
On firing, the shock of the discharge causes the detent to set back compressing its spring & thus clearing the diagonal channel for the ball to sliding down. The shutter is kept in un-armed position by the point of striker as also by the frictional force due to set back. The striker also sets back & releases the ball which slides down in the diagonal channel.
On impact, the impact causes the wind shield to crush down on the head of the striker which compresses the striker spring & pierces the detonator which comes directly below in the shutter during flight. The resulting detonating wave which passes through the septum to the stemmed explosive channel & then to explosive pellet in the magazine to detonate the bomb.
Material | 90% Brass, ball(steel) |
Length | About 87 . 5 to 88 . 5 mm w/o safety cap. |
Dia | About 34 . 5 mm to 34 . 9 mm |
Mass | 480 gm |
No. of component | 21 |
At every stage of processing, strict quality control measures are adopted to ensure the high quality of the fuzes.
This fuze is modified version of fuze 161 MKI 3M-1. The fuze is assembled with Mortor Bomb 51 mm HE. This is a direct action percussion fuze which requires a head on impact for functioning.
On impact, the striker pierces the detonater which initiates the CE pellet in the magazine which in turn initiates the bursting charge in the projectile.

Total length | 81 . 80 mm |
Total mass | 273 . 38 gm |
Diameter | 50 . 82 mm |
Number of components | 22 |
On firng the Ammunatin set back force is generated which causes arming of the fuze.
Aerodynamic shape has been given to the fuze body to achieve longer range. Also the body of fuze is made of aluminium alloys to make it light weight.
Strict quality measures are adopted during various stages of production as per specified test schedule . 100% arming test is done to achive desired results.
Primer electric is used to ignite propellant charge and is operated electrically. The electric current ignites Cap of the primer while the gun powder in it magnifies the igniferous power which in turn ignites the propellant charges.

A notch coil is fitted around its internal diameter to obtain proper size fragments. The fuze used is direct action detonating type the design adopted in the fuze prevents premature arming while transporting and handling.
The bomb are capable of functioning in sub zero as well as at high temp. effectively.
At every stage of processing , strict quality control measures are adopted to ensure the quality of the bomb.
